Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect all contents. Place on a stable, level surface away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

  1. Remove all packaging materials from the humidifier and water tank.
  2. Place the base unit on a flat, stable surface at least 12 inches away from walls and furniture.
  3. Install the filter: Remove filter from packaging and insert into the filter compartment as directed.
  4. Fill the water tank: Carry tank to sink, remove cap, fill with cool, clean water, replace cap securely.
  5. Place tank on base: Align tank with base and set down firmly until it clicks into place.
  6. Plug power cord into a standard 120V AC outlet.

WARNING! Use only clean, cool water. Do not use hot water or additives. Ensure unit is on a level surface to prevent leakage.

First-Time Use

Power on the humidifier; set your desired humidity level.

  1. Turn the humidifier ON using the power button or dial.
  2. Set desired humidity: Use the control dial or buttons to select a humidity level (typically 40-60% is recommended).
  3. Adjust mist output: Turn the mist control knob to your preferred intensity (Low/Medium/High).
  4. Allow the unit to run for a few minutes; you should see mist emitting from the outlet.
  5. The built-in humidistat will monitor room humidity and cycle the unit as needed.

CAUTION! Do not block the mist outlet. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Operation: POWER turns unit on/off. Humidity Control sets target humidity level (30%-60%). Mist Output adjusts mist intensity. Filter Light illuminates when filter needs replacement.

Settings: Adjust humidity based on room conditions and comfort. Use higher mist output in very dry conditions. The humidistat will automatically cycle the fan to maintain set humidity.

Operation Guide

Daily Operation: Fill tank, set humidity and mist level, power on.

  1. Ensure water tank is filled and properly seated.
  2. Press POWER to turn unit on.
  3. Set desired humidity level using the control dial.
  4. Adjust mist output to Low, Medium, or High as needed.
  5. Unit will run until desired humidity is reached, then cycle off. It will restart when humidity drops.
  6. When tank is empty, the automatic shut-off will turn the unit off. Refill tank to resume.

Tip: For best performance, place humidifier in the center of the room or near where moisture is needed most.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Regular cleaning prevents mold and mineral buildup.

  1. Unplug the humidifier before cleaning.
  2. Remove water tank and empty any remaining water.
  3. Clean tank with mild soap and warm water; rinse thoroughly.
  4. Wipe base unit with a damp cloth; do not immerse in water.
  5. Clean mist outlet with a soft brush to remove any deposits.
  6. Allow all parts to air dry completely before reassembling.
  7. For deep cleaning, use a vinegar solution (1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water) to descale mineral deposits. Rinse well.

WARNING! Never use harsh chemicals, abrasives, or detergents. Do not submerge base unit in water.

Filter Replacement

Replace filter regularly for optimal performance and air quality.

  1. The Filter Indicator Light will illuminate when replacement is needed (typically every 1-2 months).
  2. Unplug unit and remove water tank.
  3. Open filter compartment and remove old filter.
  4. Insert new filter as directed by arrows or markings.
  5. Close compartment, replace water tank, and plug in unit.
  6. Reset filter indicator if applicable (press and hold filter button for 3 seconds).

Note: Use only genuine Honeywell replacement filters for the HCM-890 series.

Care & Storage

When not in use for extended periods, prepare humidifier for storage.

  1. Unplug unit and empty all water from tank and base.
  2. Clean all parts thoroughly as per cleaning instructions.
  3. Allow all components to dry completely.
  4. Remove and discard old filter; do not store with used filter.
  5. Reassemble unit and store in original box or a dry, cool place.
