Installation

Unpack and inspect all parts. Installation requires basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC knowledge.

  1. Select Location: Mount on warm air (supply) plenum of furnace. Ensure access for service.
  2. Mount Cabinet: Cut opening in plenum, secure cabinet with sheet metal screws.
  3. Install Bypass Duct: Connect flexible duct between humidifier and return air plenum.
  4. Water Connection: Install saddle valve on cold water line. Connect 1/4" tubing to humidifier solenoid.
  5. Drain Connection: Attach drain hose to humidifier drain fitting; route to floor drain.
  6. Electrical Connection:Connect low-voltage wires from control to furnace fan circuit or 24VAC transformer.

WARNING! Turn off furnace power and main water supply before installation. Follow all local codes.

First-Time Setup & Operation

After installation, power on the furnace. The digital control will initialize.

  1. Set Desired Humidity: Use UP/DOWN buttons on control to set target relative humidity (recommended 35-45% for winter).
  2. Check for Leaks: Turn on water supply at saddle valve. Ensure no leaks at connections.
  3. Test Operation: Set control to "Test" or "Manual" mode to activate fan and water flow. Verify water flows over panel and drains properly.
  4. Enable Automatic Mode: Set control to "Auto". The humidifier will now run when furnace fan runs and humidity is below set point.

CAUTION! Do not set humidity too high in cold weather to prevent condensation on windows.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

The digital control panel is typically mounted on the furnace or on a wall in the living space.

Display: Shows current relative humidity (%), set point, and status icons.

Buttons: POWER, UP (+), DOWN (-), MODE (Auto/Manual/Off), FAN (manual on/off).

Settings: Set desired humidity (30-60% range). MODE selects: AUTO (normal operation), MANUAL (continuous fan & water for cleaning/testing), OFF (humidifier disabled).

Indicator Lights: Power (green), Fan On (yellow), Water On (blue), Check Panel/Service (red).

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures efficient operation and prevents scale buildup.

  1. Monthly: Inspect drain hose for clogs. Check for water leaks.
  2. Seasonal (Start of Heating Season): Replace water panel (see Section 8). Clean humidifier cabinet interior with vinegar solution to remove scale.
  3. Annually: Inspect saddle valve and water line. Clean or replace if mineral deposits are present.

Tip: Use a water softener or demineralization cartridge if you have hard water to extend panel life.

Replacing the Water Panel

The evaporative water panel should be replaced at least once per heating season, or when visibly scaled or clogged.

  1. Turn off power to furnace/humidifier.
  2. Close bypass damper (slide to "SUMMER" or "CLOSE" position).
  3. Open humidifier cabinet (remove front cover or latches).
  4. Remove old water panel. Note orientation.
  5. Insert new panel (model HE36). Ensure it sits properly in the tray.
  6. Close cabinet, open bypass damper to "WINTER" or "OPEN".
  7. Restore power. Run a manual cycle to wet the new panel.

WARNING! Always turn off power before servicing. Dispose of old panel properly.

Winter & Summer Operation

Winter (Heating Season): Set control to AUTO with desired humidity. Ensure bypass damper is OPEN. The unit will run when furnace fan is on and humidity is low.

Summer (Cooling Season): Set control to OFF. Close the bypass damper to prevent cooled air from being drawn into the return. This saves energy.

Care & Cleaning

Unplug or turn off power before cleaning. Clean exterior with a damp cloth. For interior scale:

  1. Remove water panel.
  2. Use a solution of white vinegar and water (1:1) to soak and scrub scale from the tray and interior surfaces.
  3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  4. Reinstall panel or install a new one.

CAUTION! Do not use harsh chemicals, abrasives, or high-pressure water. Ensure all parts are dry before reassembly.
